Iedereen die de Arena binnenloopt, kan niet anders dan omhoog kijken. (Ja, we hebben een spectaculair dak.)  Tijdens het ligconcert van pianist Mattias Devriendt kun je dat een heel uur lang doen zonder dat het ongemakkelijk aanvoelt.

Lie-down concert?

Kies op zondagavond 16 maart een van de matjes uit rond de vleugelpiano in het iconische Wintercircus in Gent. Leg je kussen onder je hoofd en trek je deken over je heen voor dit intieme bijzondere concert met livemuziek van componist-pianist Mattias Devriendt. Verwacht een uniek, ononderbroken muzikaal verhaal waarin rust, spanning, muzikale thema’s en dynamiek je ruim een uur lang meenemen. Een moment van stilte, rust en verbinding in een wereld vol WhatsApp-berichten en Instareeltiktokstories. 

Praktisch

Het concert duurt ongeveer 75 minuten zonder pauze. Geschikt voor alle leeftijden vanaf 7 jaar en de perfecte keuze voor een bijzondere date, een avondje uit met vriend(inn)en, voor wie op zoek is naar een bijzondere culturele ervaring in een unieke setting. Of voor wie gewoon tot zichzelf en tot rust wil komen. Er zijn eenvoudige matjes aanwezig en een beperkt aantal kussen. Breng gerust een extra zacht matje mee en vergeet je kussen, dekentje of slaapmasker niet. Oordoppen mag je thuislaten :).

Wie is Mattias Devriendt?

Mattias Devriendt begon op zijn negende met pianospelen en woont in Gent. Sinds 2004 speelt hij in de band Monserey en sinds 2022 treedt hij ook solo op als pianist. Geen Mozart, Beethoven of Schubert, maar uitsluitend eigen werk. Zijn belangrijkste invloeden zijn Radiohead, Philip Glass, Nicolas Jaar, The Album Leaf, Nils Frahm, Keith Jarrett en Jóhann Jóhannsson. “Mijn missie is om mensen via muziek momenten van rust en reflectie te bieden.” In 2024 bracht hij het laatste deel uit van vijf EP’s bij het BRG Benelux-label, getiteld: Simplicity, Contention, Equanimity, Opposition en Addition. Zijn eerste album As I Lay Down kwam uit op vinyl. In 2025 volgde een live album The Wintercircus Concert met een full concert video. In oktober 2023 werd hij door Stad Gent verkozen tot Gentenaar van de maand. Mattias is daarnaast ook hoofdredacteur van Still magazine.

Clear your mind for an hour and drift away during this piano laying concert at the iconic Wintercircus.

Anyone who enters the Wintercircus Arena can't help but look up. (Yes, we have a spectacular roof.) During a lying-down concert by pianist Mattias Devriendt, you can do that for an entire hour without it feeling awkward.

Lie-down concert? 

On Sunday evening, February 23, pick one of the mats arranged around the grand piano in the iconic Wintercircus in Ghent. Rest your head on a pillow, pull a blanket over yourself, and immerse in this intimate concert featuring live music by composer-pianist Mattias Devriendt. Expect a unique, uninterrupted musical journey where calm, tension, musical themes, and dynamics guide you for over an hour. A moment of silence, rest, and connection in a world filled with WhatsApp messages and Instareeltiktokstories.

Practical

The concert lasts approximately 75 minutes without intermission and is suitable for all ages from 7 and up. It’s the perfect choice for a special date, a night out with friends, or anyone looking for a unique cultural experience in an extraordinary setting. Or simply for those who want to relax and unwind. Simple mats and a limited number of pillows are available, but feel free to bring an extra soft mat, a pillow, blanket, or sleep mask. Earplugs? Not needed :)

Who is Mattias Devriendt?

Mattias Devriendt started playing the piano at age nine and is based in Ghent. Since 2004, he has played in the band Monserey, and in 2022, he launched his solo career as a pianist. No Mozart, Beethoven, or Schubert—just his own compositions. His key influences include Radiohead, Philip Glass, Nicolas Jaar, The Album Leaf, Nils Frahm, Keith Jarrett, and Jóhann Jóhannsson. "My mission is to create moments of peace and reflection through music." In 2024, he completed a series of five EPs under the BRG Benelux label: Simplicity, Contention, Equanimity, Opposition, and Addition. His debut album As I Lay Down was released on vinyl. In 2025, a live album and concert video, The Wintercircus Concert, followed. In October 2023, he was named Gent’s Citizen of the Month by the city of Ghent. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Still magazine.
